Jaisalmer is a far-flung desert outpost often called the “Golden City” due to the glow of its buildings made of local sandstone. Founded by Rawal Jaisalin 1156 AD, Jaisalmer’s remote location kept it almost untouched by outside influences, even during the days of the Raj.
