The archipelago of Indonesia has remained one of my favorite destinations in Asia since I first visited the Hindu island of Bali in 1989. Today its more remote reaches lure me back, from the longhouses of Toraja and Komodo’s dragons to the jungle kingdoms of Kalimantan and the Sumba pasola. I never tire of the rich diversity of monumental ruins, myth infused volcanoes, black sand beaches, elusive wildlife and genuinely hospitable people that Indonesia encompasses.
